SOUL NURTURE
Resolutions Fade: Roots Remain.
Growing deep roots:
Instead of trying to simply ‘read the Bible more’—a resolution that often fails—we are challenging you to focus on stability and foundation. We want you to make God’s Word the first priority of your day and your year.
It isn’t about finishing the Bible in 365 days; it’s about forming a deep, daily habit that anchors you against the chaos of the New Year. When we plant ourselves in Scripture first, the ‘roots’ are fed, and the rest of our life naturally grows healthier.
6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
Colossians 2:6–7 NLT

Questions & Answers
What is a daily devotion?
A time of the day that you put aside specifically for you to connect with God. Just like you may put a ‘date night’ in the diary with your partner, prioritise to spend time with close friends, or meet around the dinner table as a family, a ‘daily devotion’ is a time you set with God to be with him, speak with him, and allow him to speak to you.
When is the best time of the day to have my daily devotion?
Whenever suits you best, but we would recommend first thing in the morning, that way you are putting God first and will be more alert to his presence as you go through your whole day. Jesus also modelled this (Mark 1:35, NLT “Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.”)
How long should I spend each day?
This is entirely up to you. But if you’re using the ‘Bible in a Year’ reading plan then that will take you approximately 15 minutes to go through. To enhance your devotional time you could spend additional time studying a particular verse that stood out to you, journal your thoughts, meditate on what you’ve read, or spend time in prayer and worship.
What happens if I miss a day?
Life is busy, we get distracted. The idea is that we use this time to get us super focussed, but if for whatever reason you miss a day, don’t worry or feel condemned, just pick things up again the next day. God will still be waiting for you whenever you next decide to meet him in this way.
Other Resources
Different ways work for different people to help them engage with God. For some, having background music helps, for others a walk in nature, for other reading and for others listening. Sometimes we can hit a road block and we may need to vary things to bring a freshness. Below are some more ideas and more will be added soon which may help.
